TFY: CH 6 OPINIONS
Opinions can be judgments, advice, generalizations, personal tastes or preferences, and public sentiments. Opinions are our decisions about life based on experiences, inherited from others or memory. In critical thinking we should be able to distinguish responsible and irresponsible opinions. Responsible opinions have evidence to back it up, but irresponsible opinions are usually based on feeling. Arguments begin with opinions. An opinion only becomes an argument when it provides supporting reasons that persuade others. The principle claim is a thesis and also a conclusion which needs to be back up with evidence.
