TFY: CH 5 ASSUMPTIONS
An assumption is when we take something for grated, accept something without proof, and can be forgotten inferences. Assumptions can be conscious, unconscious, warranted, or unwarranted. There can be hidden assumptions in arguments. However, good arguments are not based on assumptions. An argument is a structure of reasoning used to persuade. A good argument has a structure of claims supported with facts, examples, and evidence. You also have to be able to recognize incongruities. Incongruity is something that doesn’t meet our expectations or assumptions about what is correct. You must reexamine your assumptions which results in growth and learning.
